This is probably one of the best exhibitions I've went to. I remember clearly I was spending a really hot day in Tokyo and I was walking at Ueno park when I saw the poster if this pink exhibition. I wasn't really interested at first, because I wasn't a fan of the brand (the store in Jakarta looks so so). But the weather was burning hot because it was summer in Tokyo, so I decided to go in to the exhibition. If I don't enjoy the exhibition, at least the room has AC in it, I told myself. Never I expected that it became one of the best exhibitions I've experienced.
Usually when I go to an exhibition, it left me with questions. Like when I went to Yayoi Kusama's My Eternal Soul in Tokyo (2017), I enjoyed the whole exhibition, but it left me with questions about Yayoi's real feelings behind her paintings, which is very very dark, contrasting with her use of colors. But this Paul Smith exhibition left me fully inspired and lit up the spirit in me. Walking into the exhibition, witnessing every corner in each room, is like going through Paul Smith's head. His stories from the younger days, how he processed every visual into new ideas, his memento collection, his designs, everything. I took a lot of pictures because I really enjoyed the exhibition. I read each room's description, the story behind every visual, I was so mesmerised. This post is a note for myself to always be reminded to look closer into the details.
